Translation below:

Steven Bland, 23, 225 mil (ed: 1 Swedish miles = 10km1!) bikes through Sweden to explore what it is like to live in an egalitarian country.

“I was inspired by Kate Pickett and Richard Wilkinson’s book Equality sand. It is the thesis that high income inequality affects a number of social factors, ranging from crime to life. Sweden lifted constantly presented as a positive example. Britain is a stratified society in which there may be different 18 years in life expectancy between the two neighborhoods in the same city. When David Cameron now wants to create what he calls “The Big Society”, where power is transferred from the state to the individual, so I want to contribute to that perspective.

What will you do during the trip?

-Together with my friend, I interviewed people and politicians, and we add up the results of our video blog. We are particularly interested in how to create the trust needed in a society. While we do not believe that Sweden is no utopia. There are increasing signs that the Swedish people’s attitudes to equality has changed.

You belong to a generation that has been badly hit by the crisis. How do you see the future?

“We will pull a heavy load, work until we’re 70 and trying to deal with climate change. It is becoming increasingly more expensive to study and there are no jobs. But even if it gets tough it gives also a chance to think about what kind of society we want.
